Giving Alms

"Let charity was given to hidden, then your Father who see the hidden will repay you."

Matthew 6: 1-4

Giving Alms - Jesus taught his disciples to do three religious obligation that almsgiving, prayer and fasting. Giving alms is not a voluntary gift in the sense that a person has the option to do so. In Hebrew, the word "tzedakah" (charity) is rooted in the sense of truth, justice or fairness. So, give alms to the Jewish people is simply an act of justice and truth to give something that is needed by the poor.

Jesus said: "Let charity was given secretly." The focus of this sentence is not in order to give alms it because the students already know but in how the charity is given by way of hidden. Jesus directs and reminds students not to give alms in hypocrisy and by showing it to many people. In other words, give alms should be done with the right motives.

There are two kinds of reward for giving alms. The first wage is the praise of man. Wages second is the praise of the Father in heaven. People who give alms to the reserved it so that people will receive wages praised mortal in this world. People like this will no longer receive his reward in heaven. Conversely, those who do not seek the praise of men on alms, will be commended in heaven eternal.

We will not be poor when we give alms. We would be more blessed when we give. Dorcas of Joppa, and Cornelius of Caesarea are two biblical figures that many give alms and as a result, God bless them. Therefore, let us share the blessing with many people around us are needy and poor.
