Forgotten Senior

Read: John 3: 22-36

He must increase, but I must decrease. (John 3:30)

Reading the Bible in a Year:
Hebrews 1-4

Forgotten Senior - "The first rule: Senior was never guilty. Second: If senior wrong, see rule number one. "Two rules were read aloud and repeated by the current senior hazing on campus. Though it sounds unfair, as a junior, I must obey in order to be free from punishment.

John was elected as the forerunner coming of Jesus (Lk. 1: 76-77). He was a senior. It could be he felt he had a major role and wants popularity. He wants to be respected, admired, and precedence. However, he did not feel unrivaled, especially envious when the disciples said, "The leader of the new, your junior, it became popular and began to threaten your position." He was not provoked to act according to the wishes of others, but remain focused will of God (vv . 27-31). He realized that "He must increase, but I must decrease" (v. 30). He is aware, the purpose of the service is that the people of Israel came to Jesus, not to himself. He did not try to usurp the role that was not hers.

We may burn with envy because of our youth have greater capabilities and reap more praise than we do. We need to be careful so as not to slip on the senior-junior conflict! Presumably to reconsider a living example of John the Baptist, we have the power to change the heat of competition into a fragrance for the name of the Lord. -DEW

God calls our goal is to exalt the name of Jesus.
