Because John many times rebuked him, saying, "Do not lawful for thee to have her!" (Matthew 14: 4)
Reading the Bible in a Year:
1 Timothy 1-6
Bold Telling The Truth - In June 2007, a number of teachers who are members of the Community Mother of Tears ridiculed, humiliated, accused of sanctimonious, and physically threatened. Agony continues, they are forced to resign, even dismissed from the profession. The cause? It turns out they dismantle the leak and cheating in national examinations.
The above story is just one of the many sufferings of those who dare to tell the truth in the midst of moral ruin. John also suffered a very tragic. Yes, he boldly rebuked Herod for taking Herodias, the wife of Philip, Herod's own brother (v. 4; cf. Lev 18:16). The risk was obvious, and the wrath of Herod ordered that John be arrested, handcuffed, and jailed. Not quite up there. Through a bad scenario, life should end up with beheaded (vv. 6-10). For the sake of a principle, the Baptist willing to suffer. For the sake of defending a noble values, he was willing to risk execution at the hands of a despot.
Live to fight for honesty and truth of moral values was not always easy. The struggle and the courage we could bear suffering, perhaps even the threat of losing their lives. Realized price to be paid for this, would we still stand as the people believe that God determined to reveal the truth in the midst of a crooked? -SYS
Speaking truth is expensive; Are there still believers who dared to pay for it?
