You ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that." (James 4:15)
Reading the Bible in a Year:
Revelation 21-22
If God Willed - Filled with the usual year-end closing activities, data collection inventory item, and calculation of profit and loss. The businesses also devise a business strategy for the next year. While the professionals think of a way to hook clients or customers more. Various plans are developed to achieve a more comfortable living and prosperous. Unwittingly, optimism soared quite often invite hubris. As if all that we have designed and thought surely accomplished. As if we can ensure our future.
Of course we have to take into account the risks when running any activity. There is nothing wrong to be too optimistic. But we should not boast too much, as we ourselves control over life and our future. There are a few things we need to consider when making plans for the coming year. First, we can only plan, but can not be sure what happens tomorrow. Second, our life is short and should be filled with things that are meaningful (vv. 13, 14). Third, we must depend on God fully in our planning.
James advises us always think of God's will in every planning. By recognizing that God is sovereign and that make our plan successful, we subjugate ourselves before Him. When we humble ourselves, God will exalt us (v. 10). Thus, what we had planned and we do become meaningless. -HEM
Involving God in planning means recognizing our dependency and powerlessness
