Love is Basic - Forsake their first love is a serious sin and fall very deep. Activities and church services were exceptional many can not replace the importance of love for one another. Ephesus is the largest city and especially among all the Roman cities in Asia. The church in Ephesus is also quite advanced in the service of the church. Church diligently and worked hard for the Lord's work in Ephesus, the city's Metropolitan Asia. Doctrine solid and sound doctrine delivered well to the church, so that they can test the teachings of those who claim to be apostles and other false teachers. For the context of this era, the church of Ephesus is a church that is ideal for many activities besides, this church also has sufficient human resources. Not only that, the Ephesians resilient and patient face persecution for Christ.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, the words of the Lord Jesus to their surprise, that they have fallen so deeply. Is the church amoral or immoral? No. Do they blaspheme God? No. Their problem is that they have left their first love, the love of God and love one another in between them (2: 4; cf. Ephesians 1:15; Colossians 1: 4; 2 Thessalonians 1: 3). The Bible clearly says that the law, which primarily is love (to God and others; Matthew 22: 37-40). Loving God and loving others is at the core of all the law and the prophets. If the application of the word of God is not moved by love, means that we are merely religious act, not the word of God because the services do without love is like empty barrels were ringing.
"Thus lived these three, faith, hope and love, and the greatest of them is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13
