The Purpose of Our Worship

Read: Acts 19: 23-40

Thus not only our efforts will disrepute, but also the temple of Artemis, goddess of it, will lose the means ... (Acts 19:27)

Reading the Bible in a Year:
Genesis 19-21

The Purpose of Our Worship - The strength of a nation is determined by economic conditions. If the economy worsens, the power of the state will be weakened. How many countries in the world are threatened with bankruptcy because of the economic crisis? If the economy is destroyed, the politicians will fall. If someone loses his livelihood, his life could be faltering.

That's what happened in Ephesus. Residents of this city makes the Goddess Artemis as their god. These conditions favor the silversmith who made and sold the statues of Artemis. That situation began to change when Paul managed to realize most of the Ephesians that there is only one true God, and many of those who worshiped Artemis stop it. One impact, the craftsmen's businesses threatened. This is what sparked riots and chaos in the city.

What happens and experienced silversmith gave a valuable lesson for us. What exactly is the purpose of worship and adoration to God? The silversmiths of Ephesus trying desperately to maintain Artemis worship activities to protect the source of their income. What about us? What was the motivation of our worship to God is to earn their livelihood and way gain? Hopefully the motivation of our worship is not like that! Worship to God with the right motivation, namely because we desire to know Him personally, not because the pursuit of his blessing. -SYS
Will we be upset if it turns out we do not receive what we expect from our worship of God?
