Genesis 7-9
Always New - Praising God in favorable circumstances it easy. But praise him in hard times requires a faith that is able to look beyond what is happening in plain sight. Exalt the greatness and faithfulness of God after a victory over the enemy has been carried out by Israel many times. Instead, mourning cover them if other nations beat them, as if the idols of the defeat of God, which has been demonstrated many miraculous deeds to them.
Babylonian army had destroyed Jerusalem, charming inhabitants and took him to Babylon. God sent Jeremiah to warn Israel as God's punishment for their disloyalty to God. However, people did not believe it. They even considered as a traitor state Jeremiah so that he was persecuted by his own people.
Jeremiah mourned the destruction of Jerusalem. He bemoaned the blindness of heart of his people and grieve over those who had taken captive to Babylon. However, Jeremiah faith shine. He still maintains the truth in his heart. He recalls God's faithfulness that has been proven in the past. God always shows His mercy and forgiveness that are always new. Truth is consoling and strengthen his faith.
Entering the New Year, what bad things that accompany your steps from earlier times? The truth of what you have to hold in order to still be able to see God's hand at work in your life, even if the reality is not as you expected? -HT
