You ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that." (James 4:15)
Reading the Bible in a Year:
Genesis 1-3
Resolution 2016 - Resolution. This word is synonymous with the New Year. People make a list of commitments, plans, expectations, and aspirations of what they would do in the new year. However, from the results of conversations with many friends, this resolution foundered even before January ends. A colleague even said, "My resolution this year is to complete the target abandoned last year, which has been my target since the previous year."
Making various plans to do in the future is a good thing. However, James reminds us of one thing: Do not forget God in it. Why? Because we did not have power over the future. We live together mortal with steam that can be lost in an instant. Does not involve God made us a proud (v.16), we assumed power over our lives.
There is no harm in making New Year's resolutions. But we must remember the principle, "If the Lord wills." It does not function as a sweetener words, in order to impress the spiritual. When we say it, we really surrender to God, involving him in all our planning, because with him the favor we can do anything. By involving the Lord, we will seriously with the resolution or the commitments we make. And even if we do not make a specific resolution, it does not matter, the important thing we always involve God in the New Year live in His grace. -HT
In the planning we do not make God as a spectator, but as a leader and advisor.
