He said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray, lest you enter into temptation." (Luke 22:46)
Reading the Bible in a Year:
Exodus 32-34
Wake And Pray - On July 1991, a stuntman, Bobby Leach, wading over Niagara Falls in a barrel of iron. He suffered only minor injuries although the action is very dangerous. A few years later, when Leach was walking in New Zealand, he slipped from stepping orange peel. He fell and broke his leg. He was taken to hospital and eventually died because of complications. He suffered injuries more severe when walking than when wading Niagara. He prepared himself well in the face of great danger, but he was not prepared to be danger on the road.
Jesus understands what it means to keep alive with a full awareness of the threat of the devil, who can impose his faith and his people. An awareness that not only do when temptation comes, but at any time. That is why Jesus asked His disciples, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation."
Personal prayer to God is one way of keeping us from evil influences that try to destroy our faith. The words of Jesus that we "wake up and pray" shows how we must always be vigilant against the temptation of the evil one. Prayer and our personal relationship with God be the strength and shield us from falling to temptation. Prayer to God to make our faith is not "asleep", otherwise continue growing and strong. -SYS
Prayer does not prevent us from temptation, but deliver the power that we do not fall into temptation
