Jesus said to him, "No! I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. "(Matthew 18:22)
Reading the Bible in a Year:
Genesis 28-30
Should Forgive - That guy has hurt me, let me down, do not good to me and my family, even he repeatedly do. Then, should I forgive?
This question often comes to my mind. And if the answer choose to be or not, then I've got the answer. Yes, it should. However, until when I forgive them?
The Lord Jesus said, "Not seven times, but seventy-seven times" (v. 22). Then, I started to count: 70 x 7 = 490 times.
I was amazed himself so imagine that I had to forgive those who have hurt me as much as four hundred and ninety times. Then I pondered again, investigating and trying to figure out the words of Jesus that purpose. Finally I obtain an enlightening explanation. Jesus' answer to Peter when Peter asked how many times he should forgive his brother, instead of pointing to how much he must forgive. Not just as much as 490 times he must forgive, and after that he could not forgive. Instead, Jesus taught us to make the act of forgiving as a habit. Acts committed repeatedly, usually will become a habit. And, forgive will be sincere if he becomes a genuine lifestyle anyway.
Now I better understand the verse. And now the choice is in my hands. Will I get used to forgive? -Mia
Forgiveness is not a one-off action, but rather the fruit of a habit of forgiving.
