Known By God

Only you know me from all the peoples of the earth. (Amos 3: 2)

Reading the Bible in a Year:
John 17-18

Known By God - This passage illustrates the uniqueness of the relationship of the Israelites with God. In the middle of the faithlessness of the Israelites, Amos reminds them of the love of God who has redeemed and brought them out of Egypt into Canaan. God has given special attention to Israel and recognizes them as His special among all the other tribes on earth. This is evident from the use of the word "know" (v. 2). It is used for the first time in Genesis 18: 17-19, which describes the closeness of God to Abraham. It's a special relationship!

But how ironic if we look at Israel in retaliation for the love of God which is great. They are not faithful! There is no sin that is hurting God but turned away from his sin and turn to idols.

Knowing that God knows and recognizes us as His special people should evoke great gratitude and respectful attitude in him. Not quite up there. We also need to learn to know Him more in demand due to the introduction of true relationships, interactions, and two-way communication on an ongoing basis. Recognize not equal to "just know". We need a relationship that is built on purpose, quality, and intensively with God so that we are united with His will. Thus, we increasingly understand the purpose of the call of God who has redeemed and choose us.-NW
