Then he released Barabbas to them, but scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified. (Matthew 27:26)
A year Bible reading:
Judges 8-9
Barabbas Free - His name was Jesus Barabbas. He is famous for his crimes and should be jailed. Pilate was trying to release Jesus Christ through the tradition of the liberation of a prisoner at the Feast. He introduced them to the masses who are angry, in the hope they choose to release Jesus Christ. But he was wrong. The crowd chose Barabbas.
On Friday, Christ underwent His punishment: whipped, humiliated, mocked, crowned with thorns, beaten, spat upon, stripped, and crucified. He made show. If Barabbas who is free to watch all of it, he should be grateful. Christ has replaced him and take his place. If only people did not choose it, is serving a sentence on that black Friday.
We might think how lucky it Barabbas. That's the reality. But we must realize that we are much luckier him. Actually, just as Barabas, we have to go through all the torture and suffering that Jesus responsibility. Rome was not a soldier, not incitement priests and Jewish religious leaders, and not the betrayal of Judas took Jesus to the gallows, but our sins.
He was punished so that we can be liberated. He died that we might live. His love is the reason he chose that path. Barabas just detached from prison and hanged on the cross, but we, by faith in Christ, was released from eternal damnation, and inherit eternal life in heaven with Him. -HT
Christ died for us, that we might live for Him.
