Jesus said to him, "If thou wilt be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come and follow me." (Matthew 19:21)

Joshua 7-8

Places To God - A wealthy young, old, happy, dead go to heaven. So perhaps the desire of young people who met Jesus in the passage above. The result? Shocking. The young people had to go home disappointed. There are a few things to ponder on the story above.

The young man thought good works would take him into heaven (v. 16). We may understand his understanding that since Jesus has not shown his resurrection. He then ordered the young men keep all the commandments of God and decipher what is in the law. Wisely, Jesus wanted to show that comply with the law alone is not sufficient, but needed surrender completely to God by being a new person ( "sell your possessions", v. 21). Hearing these remarks, the boy had to go with a sad he had great possessions (v. 22). The rich young man has not been able to let go of attachment to the treasures of the world. He has not been able to put God at the main wealth overcome. As a result, Jesus also said that the rich man is hard to enter the Kingdom of Heaven (v. 23). He did not control his wealth, but instead bound by that wealth.

There is nothing wrong if we believed to have a large amount of wealth. The problem is, whether such property binds us to replace God in our lives? Provide a prominent place for God in our lives, then we will not be slaves to things such as wealth. - HC
