Because he has that power, and He knows what is in the minds of these people. To prove the Pharisees and scribes that Jesus can forgive sins, He commanded the paralytic to get up and lifted his bed and go home. Miracles happen; He healed not only physically, but also spiritually, because Jesus was more concerned with matters spiritual than physical things. And the result is God glorified! Unmatched power of God's work when we truly believe in Him.
