Psalm 142: 1-8
"Rock unwavering. You are my refuge. The waves of the world, thou stand. Lord Jesus I cried. Help your children. "These songs can not be forgotten. When I was in elementary school, my friend, that if asked by the teacher to sing in front, he always sang this song. In harmony with Psalm 142: 6, this hymn has been a blessing from time to time. The words "You are my shelter ..." worded statement from a man who truly believes that God only true refuge.
How does the psalmist convinced that God's sanctuary, while God can not be seen? Normally humans seek refuge in safe places, which at that time in the form of rock, city or fortress solid. "In Bible times 'city' or 'castle' synonymous. Sometimes in terms of the defense of a city is emphasized by calling it 'fortified city' or 'walled', distinguished from the villages that are not walled. Development of Jerusalem by Nehemiah's story proves that the requirements of a city must have a wall. "(Encyclopedia of Bible Present, p. 176).
If the psalmist describes God as a refuge, this talk about spiritual protection. God is a Spirit, He is infinite, can not be seen, but certainly there. In the book of Proverbs, the Name of God is described as a tower, where there righteous will run and be saved. "(Proverbs 18:10).
The reality in this world, many people seek refuge in physical things, whether human, object or somewhere safe, but remains uneasy without the presence of God. Many people often say that the world is more insecure. World war that may occur at any time, making the atmosphere of the human soul does not exist serenity. Countries then protect yourself with a variety of advanced equipment. But believers should be different attitude. In the life of this threat, there is the Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and power to protect us. He has given assurance, "I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Cf. Matthew 28:20).
Inspiration: The believer does not need to ask: "Where do I have to take shelter?" But by faith says: "You are my protection."
