Returning The Favor - Fellow church we are experiencing financial difficulties. I invite my wife to help him. I add that they've helped us so we must help them. My wife replied, "Do we need to help simply because they never help us?" Those words made me reflect on the meaning of good deeds and reciprocation.

In reality, we often do good because we owe the good of others. We return the favor. On the contrary, not infrequently, we look forward to hearing good over the goodness we've ever given to others. We demand reciprocity from others who've we please. Joseph while in prison ever expect reciprocation of the chief cupbearer who already was helping (v. 14). He hoped that the king's cupbearer immediate release from prison. However, in reality the good of the new Joseph remembered after two years (Gen. 41: 1). The Lord Jesus himself taught, so that we do not demand a reply of love from the people that we love (Lk. 6:33).

Maybe we ever expect the goodness of the people we've helped earlier. And if that person does not go repay all the kindness, we become disappointed. Or conversely, we help others because that person ever helped us before. Are we still do good on the basis of that? Is not God teaches us to love unconditional? -SPP

Reciprocation is God's arrangement. He knows when and who will repay it.
