Phileas Fogg in Jules Verne's novel that has often filmed, Around the World in Eighty Days, see sati culture in India. A young woman, Aouda, was about to be sacrificed by fire following the death of her husband. The woman refused, but helpless as drugged with marijuana. Fogg and his assistant, Passepartout, looking strategy, and finally succeeded in freeing Aouda.

The story of Abraham and Isaac is often read as a prophecy for the sacrifice of Christ on the cross in our place. And, indeed not mistaken. However, there is another lesson we can learn from this story. For us, God commands Abraham to sacrifice Isaac impressed violent. In fact, it is not for the people of that era. According to Brian Zahnd in A Farewell to Mars, they usually sacrifice the eldest son for the sake of asking a blessing and fertility in their god. Hearing the order, chances are they are not surprised, only pity Abraham, who have long been looking forward to the child. Thankfully, the story does not end brutally. Acts of God replaces Isaac by a ram, as such, is a strong statement that he does not want human sacrifice.

I think that most of the "blessing of Abraham". In Christ, we took part in the blessing to bless the world and each other. We are invited to avoid and reject the culture that brought death, and foster a culture that led to life.-ARS
