Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the surge troops were praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among men who are pleasing to him." (Luke 2: 13-14)
Reading the Bible in a Year:
1 John 4-5
Peace and Prosperous - Great fear gripping the shepherds who were guarding a herd of cattle in the fields of Bethlehem. How come? At midnight, they were struck by an army of angels who radiate the glory of God. The glory of God is too great that nobody can see it (1 Tim. 6:16).
Fear requires an antidote. There needs to be a guarantee that we are safely protected. The question is, why did the angels sing about peace? Whether it's a kind of a sense of ease for a moment? What to do with the glory of God in a supreme? The proof that Israel was still colonized by the Romans. The fate of the shepherds also not much changed after they saw the baby Jesus. If only the peaceful feeling was only temporary, it's certainly not good news name.
Meaning peace later described by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 2: 14-22. At first we are enemies of God and can not be approached him in any way. When we believe in Christ, the separation wall was destroyed and we are reconciled to God. No more fear because Christ became our advocate (Rom. 8:34). By birth, death, and resurrection of Christ as well, all believers are reconciled to God. Through Christ, we made close to God. So, the angels proclaimed peace that it is eternal. This is the joyful news that is unequaled. -HEM
True peace is when we are reconciled to God the Father through Jesus Christ.
